About the Recipe

Venison, with its robust flavor and lean profile, offers a delightful alternative to traditional beef steaks. In this recipe, we'll explore a simple yet elegant way to prepare pan-seared venison steaks, ensuring they're tender, juicy, and bursting with savory goodness. Whether you've just returned from a successful hunt or procured venison from a trusted source, this recipe promises a delightful culinary experience that celebrates the natural flavors of this wild game meat. Let's dive into the art of cooking venison steaks to perfection

Ingredients

2 venison steaks

Salt and pepper, to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil

Optional: Fresh herbs (thyme, rosemary) or garlic cloves for added flavor

Preparation

Take the venison steaks out of the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to an hour. This helps them cook more evenly.

  1. Season both sides of the steaks generously with salt and pepper. You can also add other seasonings like garlic powder or steak seasoning if desired.

  2. Heat the olive oil or vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. If using fresh herbs or garlic, add them to the oil to infuse the flavors.

  3. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the seasoned venison steaks in the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or adjust the cooking time based on your desired level of doneness.

  4. Use tongs to flip the steaks and avoid piercing them with a fork, as this can release their juices.

  5. For a more accurate doneness, you can use a meat thermometer. Insert the thermometer into the thickest part of the steak: 125°F for rare, 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium, and 160°F for well done.

  6. Once the steaks reach your preferred doneness, remove them from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes on a cutting board. This allows the juices to redistribute, resulting in a juicier steak.

  7. Slice the venison steaks against the grain into thin slices. Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.

Note: Venison is a lean meat, so take care not to overcook it, as it can become tough. It's best served medium-rare to medium for optimal tenderness and flavor. Adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of your steaks and your desired level of doneness. Enjoy your venison steak!
