About the Recipe

Starting your day with a cozy café experience right in the comfort of your home a freshly brewed cappuccino, rich with the aroma of freshly ground espresso beans and velvety steamed milk. This homemade cappuccino recipe brings the essence of a café right to your kitchen, promising a delightful start to your morning or a comforting treat any time of day.

The journey begins with the heart of the cappuccino—a shot of espresso. Whether brewed using an espresso machine, stovetop Moka pot, or a convenient Nespresso machine, the espresso is the bold foundation of this beloved coffee beverage, delivering a robust and concentrated coffee flavor.

As the espresso brews, the milk takes center stage, gently heating on the stove until it reaches the perfect steaming point. The choice of milk is yours—whole milk for a creamy richness, 2% milk for a lighter texture, or a dairy-free alternative like almond or oat milk for a plant-based twist.

Once steamed, the milk transforms into a velvety canvas, ready to be frothed into a cloud-like foam. Using a milk frother of your choice, whether electric or handheld, the milk becomes airy and frothy, adding a layer of luxurious texture to the cappuccino.

With the espresso shot poured into a waiting cup, the steamed milk cascades in, blending harmoniously with the bold coffee base. The frothy milk, held back momentarily with a spoon, floats atop the espresso and steamed milk, creating the iconic layered look of a classic cappuccino.

To add a final touch of indulgence, a sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon adorns the creamy foam, enhancing both the flavor and presentation of your homemade creation.

The first sip is a revelation—a perfect harmony of rich espresso, creamy steamed milk, and airy frothed milk. Each sip is a moment of pure bliss, transporting you to your favorite café with every sip.

Whether enjoyed as a morning ritual, a midday pick-me-up, or a comforting treat after a long day, this homemade cappuccino embodies the essence of café culture, inviting you to savor the simple pleasures of a perfectly crafted coffee beverage made just for you.

Ingredients

1 shot of espresso (about 1 ounce)

1/3 cup of steamed milk

1/3 cup of frothed milk

Cocoa powder or cinnamon for garnish (optional)

Preparation

  1. Start by brewing a shot of espresso using your preferred method. You can use an espresso machine, stovetop Moka pot, or even a Nespresso machine if you have one.

  2. While the espresso is brewing, heat the milk. You can use whole milk, 2% milk, or even a dairy-free alternative like almond milk or oat milk. Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it's steaming hot but not boiling.

  3. Once the milk is hot, froth it using a milk frother. You can use an electric milk frother, a handheld frother, or even a French press by pumping the plunger up and down vigorously until the milk becomes frothy and doubles in volume.

  4. Pour the freshly brewed espresso into a cup.

  5. Slowly pour the steamed milk over the espresso, holding back the frothed milk with a spoon to allow the foam to stay on top.

  6. Now, spoon the frothed milk on top of the cappuccino, creating a layer of creamy foam.

  7. If desired, sprinkle a pinch of cocoa powder or cinnamon on top of the foam for added flavor and decoration.

  8. Serve your homemade cappuccino immediately and enjoy!

Tip:

Note: The key to a good cappuccino is achieving the right balance between espresso, steamed milk, and frothed milk. Adjust the proportions according to your taste preferences—some people prefer a stronger espresso flavor, while others like more milk in their cappuccino. Experiment with different types of milk and frothing techniques to find your perfect cup!
