My Story: Where It All Began

There’s something special about growing up close to the land, and something that stays with you for life.
I was raised on a farm in Lows Creek near Barberton, where my parents were vegetable and fruit farmers. Life was simple, but full — filled with early mornings, fresh air, and the rhythm of nature guiding our days.
Nothing ever went to waste. Everything we grew was used, shared, or preserved. From bottling to freezing, I learnt from a young age how to take what nature provides and make it last. Without even realising it at the time, this is where my love for preserving, cooking, and working with natural ingredients began.
Our kitchen was always busy. My parents’ cooking style was a beautiful combination of English and German recipes wholesome, comforting meals made from scratch. Food wasn’t just about eating; it was about care, tradition, and bringing people together.
Learning to Create
Creativity has always been part of my life.
At the age of 9, my mother taught me how to crochet with wool. Those first stitches opened up a whole new world for me. Later, my Aunt Ella taught me how to work with fine cotton, showing me how to focus on tension, detail, and how to read crochet patterns properly. Those lessons taught me patience, discipline, and the joy of creating something beautiful with my own hands.
Throughout my school years, I continued to grow my skills by taking cooking and sewing classes. Creativity wasn’t just something I enjoyed, and it became part of who I was.
One of my most memorable moments was in Standard Seven, when crochet was part of our curriculum, but our teacher didn’t know how to crochet. I ended up teaching the class myself. Looking back, that moment planted a seed a love for teaching and sharing what I know with others.
A Journey Through Flavour
As life moved forward, so did my learning.
My mother-in-law introduced me to Afrikaans cooking and traditional cuisine, adding new flavours, techniques, and depth to what I already knew. Each influence — English, German, Afrikaans became part of my cooking style. Over time, everything blended into something uniquely my own.
Bringing It All Together
What started as small hobbies making soaps, baking bread, crocheting, and creating for my home, slowly became something more. A way of life.
In 2025, My Creative LifeStyle officially became a business with multiple product lines. What once lived in my kitchen and creative space grew into something I could share with others.
Today, every recipe I create, every product I make, and every project I share carries a piece of that journey. It’s a reflection of: Where I come from. What I’ve been taught, and what I continue to learn
More Than Just Making. For me, this isn’t just about products or recipes.
It’s about slowing down, creating with intention, living closer to nature, and sharing something meaningful
My Creative LifeStyle is a space where all of this comes together — a place where creativity, food, and handmade living meet.
Thank you for being part of this journey
Much Love, Angela
