Pieter Christian Esterhuizen

30 November 1983 – 26 August 2026

A Celebration of His Life

This page is dedicated to my beautiful son, Pieter Christian Esterhuizen.

Pieter left us suddenly on 26 August 2026, following a motorcycle accident.

There are no words that can fully describe the loss of a child, nor the space that is left behind when someone you love so deeply is suddenly no longer physically here.

This page will be a place where we celebrate Pieter’s life, share memories, preserve special moments and keep a record of the love that surrounds him.

It will also become part of my own journey, a journal of the days that follow, the grief, the memories, my faith, the difficult moments and, eventually, the small steps towards finding my way forward.

Pieter loved a picnic. For him, almost any moment could become an experience worth making special. He placed far more value on time together, memories and living in the moment than on material things.

If the weather was good, everything would be carried outside onto the lawn or packed into the car so the picnic could be as memorable as possible. And if it was raining or cold, that did not stop him, even the lounge could become a picnic spot.

That is why we have chosen a picnic memorial in celebration of Pieter’s life. It reflects something he truly loved: being together, enjoying the moment, sharing food, laughter and creating memories with the people around him.

My Prayer for Pieter...

Heavenly Father,

I place my precious son, Pieter, into Your loving hands.

Thank You for the years I was blessed to have him, for his laughter, his smile, his love, his strength, and for every memory that will remain with me for the rest of my life.

Lord, my heart is broken in a way I cannot explain. I miss him more than words can ever say. There are moments when the pain feels too heavy to carry, and I do not understand why I had to lose my son so suddenly.

Please hold him close to You, Lord. Surround him with Your peace, Your light and Your everlasting love.

And please hold me too.

Give me strength for the days when I feel weak, comfort when the grief overwhelms me, and faith when I struggle to understand Your plan. Help me to keep walking, one day at a time, carrying Pieter with me in my heart.

Watch over Cidnee and Christian. Let them always know how deeply their Daddy loved them. Keep his love alive in their memories and surround them with comfort, protection and people who will remind them of the beautiful man he was.

Thank You, Lord, that love does not end with death.

Until the day I see my son again, help me to honour his life, speak his name with love, treasure every memory and trust that he is safe in Your care.

Pieter, my beautiful son, you will always be part of me. I love you beyond words, beyond distance, beyond this life.

Lord, keep him close until I can hold him again.

Amen.

My Journey with Pieter

One day at a time, carrying love, memories and faith with me.

The day my life change forever...

I never imagined I would one day be writing about life without my son.

On 26 August 2026, my world changed forever when I lost Pieter.

Since then, I have learned that grief comes in waves. Some moments feel almost normal, and then suddenly the reality of losing him hits all over again. There are days when I feel strong, days when I feel completely lost, and moments when a memory of Pieter brings a smile through the tears.

So I have decided to write. Not because I have answers, but because I need somewhere to place the memories, the pain, the questions, my faith and the love I will always carry for him.

This journal is my journey with Pieter, one day at a time, and sometimes simply

one minute at a time in a horrible nightmare.
